Established in 2013 with eight children, PAHAL Pathshala aims to impart need-
based education, behavioural guidance and art and craft skills to children of slum-
dwellers, labourers and construction workers. The school equips children below the
age of 14 to get started with preparatory education and instill inquisitiveness as well
as a thirst for knowledge.
Currently, the school enrols 40 students every session and aims to increase the
strength to 60. Over the years, many PAHAL Pathshala students have been
absorbed by government schools to further continue their education. Each student is
provided with summer and winter uniform, stationery, bag, lunchbox and mid-day
meals - free of cost.
For the overall development of students, they are encouraged to participate in
workshops and inter-school competitions organized by various schools in Delhi.
Sports events and Painting competitions are held on special days to nurture their
competitive spirit.
Since Pahal does not receive any government financial aid, the Pathshala, is totally
run with the able support of our Pahal volunteers and through sponsorships and
donations.
Between the months of August and October, to encourage PAHAL Pathshala students to
take up skill-based projects, the students design lamps in the run up to the festival of lights,
Deepawali. The lamps are on sale on PAHAL website as well as different Diwali melas and
handicrafts fairs held across Delhi and NCR region. All the proceeds are used for further skill
development of the students like making of bags, bookmarks, showpieces etc.

PAHAL, in collaboration with major hospitals, has been organizing medical camps in and
around Delhi on a regular basis. The medical camps include eye check-ups, breast cancer
tests, blood donation camps and much more. The NGO also conducts regular health talks to
sensitize people about Cancer, Diabetes, and other major diseases. Some of the hospitals
that are associated with PAHAL are Manipal Hospital and Centre for Sight.
PAHAL in the past had also conducted a PAHAL Pad project where women from
economically weaker sections were sensitized about personal hygiene and sanitization
through a series of talks, as well as, distribution of sanitary napkins.
With the collective financial support of volunteers and members, PAHAL has been able to
give emergency medical support, such as, eye surgery of a 2-year-old daughter of a
construction worker, and immediate labour support for an expecting mother. The NGO has
also been prompt in collecting donations, medical supplies and relief items for areas affected
by natural disasters, like Amphan Cyclone in West Bengal and Odissa, Nepal Earthquake,
and Kerala Floods.
PAHAL actively distributed food and groceries to migrant labourers and housemaids stuck in
Delhi during the lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Every year in August and December, the NGO reaches out to people to donate clothes that
they won’t use and collects them for distribution to labourers and slum dwellers.
PAHAL also spends a day each year at widow homes in Vrindavan and distributes sarees
and new petticoats to the women living there. A highlight for all the members as they get an
opportunity to interact, sing, dance and dine with them.
